Year 4 - Chance to Shine - Cricket Festival

Here at Chapel Fields Junior School all children participate in 2 hours of PE each week. One lesson will focus on sport, games, gymnastics and dance and the other lesson focuses on our new scheme of work called Real PE. Real PE is a scheme of work that focuses on the development of agility, balance and coordination, healthy competition and cooperative learning through a unique and market leading approach to teaching and learning in PE. Real PE is designed to challenge and support every child in each lesson.

During PE lessons pupils will be taught to:

  • use running, jumping, throwing and catching in isolation and in combination
  • play competitive games, modified where appropriate, and apply basic principles suitable for attacking and defending
  • develop flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance
  • perform dances using a range of movement patterns 
  • take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges both individually and within a team
  • compare their performances with previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best.

 

In Year 5 pupils will also receive swimming lessons at St Martins School. Pupils will be taught to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

 

We also participate in competitions throughout the school year. This year we have participated in competitions for football, cheerleading, rowing, indoor sports hall athletics and we will also be competing in tri golf and cricket competitions in the Summer Term.
