In the autumn term, the Design and Technology project will be linked to year 3 topic looking at stone and Bronze Age weapons and designing vehicles to celebrate the invention of the wheel. In the spring term, D&T will involve exploring levers and moving parts and finally during the summer term, it will involve designing & making photograph frames. Year 3 will also be learning to weave and looking at the history of weaving.
In the autumn term, the Design and Technology project for year 4 will be creating their own Panini (toasties) from different countries. Pupils will select ingredients from the country of their choice and design their Panini before creating it.
Year 4 will be ‘Creating a Mobile Phone Case’ as part of their D&T project for the summer term. The pupils will have an opportunity to be creative and practise their sewing skills.
In the autumn term, the Design and Technology project for year 5 will involve exploring the work of the famous inventor Isambard Kingdom Brunel and then pupils will move on to building their own model bridges. During the spring term, the D&T topic links to year 5 topic work of Mexico. Pupils will be looking at masks and their uses and will design and make their own masks. Year 5 will also be exploring Cam toys including gears and pulleys and learning about famous inventors during the summer term.
The year 6 Design and Technology topic for spring term is ‘Controllable Vehicles’. For the summer term, the D&T topic will be ‘Greek Food’. The pupils will have an opportunity to sample some traditional Greek foods and to design their own Greek Salad.
